Filichia Features: WORKING with Real Workers

Daniel C. Levine, Artistic Director of A.C.T. of Connecticut, has reimagined Stephen Schwartz's musical Working with a unique and modern twist. Levine, with Schwartz's enthusiastic approval, incorporated video interviews of Ridgefield workers, blending their real-life stories with the musical's scenes and songs. Levine shared, “When I asked Rosie the deli owner what her dreams were, she said 'I love clothes, and if I was a fashion designer, I would've been an awesome fashion designer.'"

Schwartz praised the innovative approach, stating it "connected the audience to the production in a more significant way," making the 40-year-old piece feel current and relevant. He added, "Working is flexible enough to be performed by virtually any number of actors, depending on the director's needs and desires."

Discover how Levine’s vision and Schwartz’s timeless music create a powerful tribute to everyday workers. Read the full feature for more insights from Levine and Schwartz.
