A.C.T. of CT stages award-winning 'time-capsule' show ‘Rent’

From May 26 through June 19, A.C.T. of Connecticut will stage its own production of Rent, directed by Daniel C. Levine. This iconic musical, written by the late Jonathan Larson and loosely based on Puccini’s “La Bohème,” follows seven artists in New York City's East Village during the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Levine, who was deeply impacted by seeing the original Rent cast while he was performing on Broadway, describes the show as a "time capsule." He states, “While I definitely put my own spin on the production, I was not interested in reconceiving the show... the show’s message remains incredibly relevant today.”

The cast includes Ben Bogen as Mark, Paloma D’Auria as Maureen, Gordia Hayes as Collins, and Paola V. Hernández as Mimi, among others. Levine emphasizes that "Rent" bridges generational gaps with its timeless themes of love, loss, and the value of community.
